STUDENT COUNCIL

Meets the first Wednesday of each month. After school until 4:30 p.m.

 

 Teachers’ workday is from 7:45 a.m. until 3:45 p.m.

We welcome communication between teachers and parents. Several mornings each week teachers are in staff meetings with the principal. Please email or call the teacher’s voice mail so they can call you to find out the best time to talk or meet.  Visiting the classroom

Parents are encouraged to visit their child's classroom throughout the year. Arrangements should be made in advance with the child's teacher. Short, well-planned visits provide a better understanding of the child's school experience than long, unscheduled visits.  We ask parents not to bring small children when visiting, in order to minimize distractions to learning.

 

For the safety of students, all visitors are required to sign in at the office before visiting.  Visitors must wear a “Visitor” badge and must sign out at the office before leaving the school.

 

A Doctor’s note is required for

ANY medication brought to school.

 

INCLUDING store bought medications such as, cold medicine, cough syrup, eye drops, Benadryl, Tylenol, lotions, creams, sunscreen etc.

 All medication must be in the original box to verify the correct product and dosage for the child.

Cupcakes or Cookies only - No full size cakes please!

Bringing Birthday Treats: All treats must be store bought and not homemade. Please do not bring whole cakes. Individual treats such as cupcakes or cookies are best.

Please notify the teacher the day before. Please no balloons or gifts for the birthday child. We appreciate that you want the classroom to celebrate your child’s birthday, but we want to keep any learning disruptions to a minimum.

School Closure or

Delay Start Information

If Aurora Public Schools closes or delays start times, announcements will be made on local TV and radio stations, and  the APS website  www.aps.k12.co.us

 A recorded message will also call all Vassar households to let them know school is closed or delayed. Please be sure the office has your correct home phone number in our system.

 DELAYED START:  School will start 1 hour late.

Vassar will start one hour later at 9:45 a.m. Students may be dropped off at 9:30 a.m.

and go to the gym for indoor recess or to the cafeteria if they eat breakfast at school.

 Buses will pick up students one hour later than their normal pick-up time.

 Please note: A delayed start only changes the morning start time.

It does not change the start or end time of afternoon Kindergarten.

 School gets out at normal time.

Buses will be on normal schedule at the end of the day.

LATE START - If we have a late start due to bad weather, school will begin at 9:45.  We will NOT be serving students breakfast.

New Aurora Public Schools Attendance Policy

  • Family Vacations/Family Business during the school year

 

Parents taking students out of school for vacations, weddings, funerals, graduations, etc. must be pre-approved by the Principal and must not exceed 3 days.

 

In order for the attendance to be approved the following conditions must also be in place:

  • The student must also be in good academic standing.
  • Student must have no unexcused absences.
  • Student must have no more than four excused absences in a semester or seven or fewer for the school year.

 Students who have unexcused absences would not be approved. If the family chooses to proceed with a family vacation, the absences would be considered unexcused. Unexcused absences may put a student into “habitual truant status” and the school may proceed with the truancy process, if deemed appropriate.

In-service Days– The purpose of these days is for teachers to further their professional knowledge and to enhance their instructional skills so they can more effectively meet their student’s needs. In-service days are filled with learning and practice to further educational growth.

 

Teacher Work Days– There is a teacher workday at the end of each quarter to provide additional time for teachers to do a quality job preparing student report cards and planning for instructional units.
